Polish driver Robert Kubica, driving a BMW Sauber, has seized his first Formula One victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Germany’s Nick Heidfeld, also driving a BMW, came second and Britain’s David Coulthard of Red Bull was third.

robertkubica.jpg Robert Kubica will start from the front row of the grid for the Canadian Grand Prix. The BMW Sauber F1 Team driver qualified second in Montreal. His team-mate, Nick Heidfeld, also qualified his F1.08 safely in the top ten this time out and was eighth.

bahrain.jpg Robert Kubica said : “I am happy with the result. This is my second consecutive podium and the team is leading the constructors’ championship. Unfortunately I had massive wheel spin at the start and hit some debris in the first corner of the second lap. When I drove through the oil I was sure I had punctured my tyre as at that point I didn’t have the information about the oil.”

kubica_86.jpgThe BMW Sauber team scored two points in an action packed Chinese Grand Prix. Nick Heidfeld finished seventh after a double pitstop mid-race as a result of taking a second set of intermediates, rather than slicks. Robert Kubica retired on lap 34 while leading due to a hydraulic leak.
